Oh my, how the time flies!!! In the blink of an eye it has already been 7 months and I just don’t know where that time has gone!! We have built a ton of memories with our little Brynlee and I feel so blessed to be able to watch her learn and grow each day. We are at a really fun age where she is trying new things and figuring them out every day and to see her excitement of doing so is just amazing!! She has such a fun personality that develops more and more each day and I am so proud to be her mama. This last month has been a little bumpy, she has unfortunately been sick a lot… But we are finally on the upside of that, which is a huge relief! Seeing her sick is one of the saddest things ever, I just feel so helpless.
Weight: At her last doctor visit she weighed 16 pounds 4 ounces. Which is what she weighed at around 6 months, but she got very sick and lost some weight, so I am very happy that she has gained it back.
Health: Right after she turned six months old she got really sick and couldn’t keep anything down. Every time we would feed her she would spit it right back up. We went through a lot of Pedialyte during that time. After two weeks of keeping her home she finally got better and was able to eat again. Then we took her back to day care and 3 days later she came home with gunk coming out of her eyes and a fever… And when I say gunk, I mean a lot of gunk!! I didn’t know it was possible for someone that small to produce that much eye gunk!! I could practically see it forming after each time I cleaned out her eyes. She was constantly rubbing them which then made them turn bright red and she was just so uncomfortable. Plus she had a fever, her first one, and I was so worried about her. I don’t think I slept at all that first night. I took her to the doctor first thing the next morning thinking she had pink eye and maybe something else; I wasn’t sure what was causing the fever. But it turned out to just be a virus that was coming out of her eyes. The fever (and I had never heard this before, but knowing it now makes me feel so much better!!!) is actually a good thing. The doctor said that it was a sign that her body was doing what it was supposed to be doing. Basically when she got the virus, her body raised her core temperature to kill off the bad things. The only time that I need to worry was if it got over 104* or lasted longer than three days. Thankfully, neither of those happened. She got a prescription for her eyes and within a few days she was completely better. On the flip side, while we were trying to get her better, we probably only got about 10 of sleep over a 4 day period, which has resulted in both of us getting sick. Thankfully we have been successful in not passing it back to her, but the last couple of weeks have not been very fun for us.
Sleep: Brynlee still isn’t much of a nap taker, usually only two or three 20-45 minute naps each day, but she has been great at sleeping through the night. Every once in a while she will wake herself up and fuss or talk for about 15 seconds or so, but she is great at self-soothing and puts herself right back to sleep. This does not stand for when she is sick, then all bets are off and really the only way she will sleep is if me or Landon is holding and cuddling with her. I love the cuddles, but I’m not such a fan of not being able to sleep myself… Plus I never like seeing her sick.
*she is will not sit still for her photo shoots anymore… I can see that this is going to get harder and harder.
Social: Brynlee is still as social as ever. We went to dinner the other night to celebrate one of my friend’s birthday and Brynlee totally stole the show. She had every adult at the surrounding tables talking to her and waving at her and Brynlee would just smile and coo and soaked it all up! Brynlee loves being out and about and she loves to people watch! She will smile and laugh at anyone that wants to pay attention to her. However, she likes it best when she can do so from her stroller, high chair or when Landon or I is holding her. If there is too much going on around her and she is being held by someone she doesn’t know she will usually start to cry until I get her and then she will return to her normal happy self.
Diet: Brynlee loves to eat! We are alternating her feeding between baby food and bottles and that has been working out really well for us so far. I am so happy that I have been able to make all of her baby food and it has been much easier that I thought it would be, so I plan on continuing to do so until she switches to regular food. I recently made her applesauce and she loves it!!! We’ve also just introduced avocados and I am going this weekend to see if I can find any other new food for her to try. The only thing she has like has been bananas, I’ve tried to give them to her a couple of times and she wants nothing to do with them… I’ve been told that at this point it is more about the texture for them that the taste so I planning on trying them again in the future. Basically I want her to try as many foods as possible so hopefully she will not be a picky eater, but I don’t know how well that will work or not.
Clothes: Brynlee is wearing mostly 3-6 month with some 6-9 month clothes mixed in. I think she is really long for her size because 3-6 month tops fit her really well, while the pants are usually too short whereas, 6-9 month tops usually drown her and the pants fit perfectly. But then a lot has to do with which brand they are too, so it’s all a guessing game…
Crying: When Brynlee is not sick she usually only cries when she is hungry. And even then, we’ve got a pretty good schedule going so that doesn’t happen too often. She used to cry a lot when she would get over tired, I don’t know if she just doesn’t get over tired anymore, or if we have her short nap schedule down but that rarely happens now. For the most part, Brynlee is the happiest of babies, she loves to smile and laugh and while she will fuss if she wants to be picked up or if someone isn’t paying attention to her when she wants them to, it seems we are past the full blown crazy crying, at least for now. I am sure they will be back when more teeth are coming in.
Likes: I am pretty sure Brynlee’s favorite thing right now is our dog Lola. And time she is around she will have Brynlee’s undivided attention. Lola has been a lot better than we had ever hoped she would be. There have been a couple of times that Brynlee has really pulled on Lola’s fur and she just let out a cry to let us know and didn’t even growl at Brynlee. Lola is always sneaking licks on Brynlee, if I am feeding her, I’ll look over and Lola is licking her foot or if she is playing on her gym mat I’ll look and Lola will go in for one on the face. Brynlee thinks that it is the greatest thing ever!!! She loves to be held and twirled around like we are dancing. Or if I am lying on the bed or sitting on the couch and I pick her up over my head and zoom her around like an airplane she gets the biggest smile on her face. And of course she loves playing with all of her new toys from Christmas and especially jumping around in her jumper.
Milestones: Brynlee might not yet be crawling, but that girl can move!!! We can’t look away for two seconds or she will be across the room. She scoots, rolls or does whatever she can to more wherever she wants to go. The other day we were taking her 7 month pictures in her chair and all of a sudden she flips herself over, swings her feet over the ledge and starts scooting like she was trying to climb down!!! She can’t stand on her own, I don’t know what she thought she was going to do when her feet hit the floor. Luckily Landon was sitting on the floor right next to the chair so he picked her back up and positioned her back on the chair. And do you know what she did??? She immediately flipped herself over and did it again!!!! This time we both sat right next to her to see what she would actually do. Landon had his hands up waiting to get her and sure enough, she scooted right off that chair! I’m concerned that this does not bode well for us… Other than that she still only has two, her bottom two front teeth. We thought that two more were about to break through a couple of weeks ago, but they haven’t yet so we will see. Oh and her helmet came off right after Christmas and it has been wonderful!!! She did have a few incidents where she swung her head into something, while she had the helmet on it was of no consequence, but she learned very quickly that that is no longer the case… now she is very careful about whipping her head around.
Brynlee has been so much fun these past 7 months and I know we are going to have even more fun as she grows. I’m so excited to see her reach new milestones, to teach her things and to create so many fun memories with her. She is such a joy to have in our lives and I am truly thankful for all that she has taught us. I know this is very cliché, but I really can’t imagine my life without her now. Sometimes, I think back on how we used to be able to sleep in on the weekends or go on dates or on a trip without a second thought and while that was nice, it doesn’t even compare to how amazing it is to be sharing our lives with her.
