Mother’s Day Wish List

Since Mother’s Day is coming up, I thought I’d share a few things I’ve been pining after, just in case you want to steal any gift ideas for yourself or your loved ones. I’m certainly not expecting to receive everything off this list (or even most of it), but is that the point of a wish list? 😉

First up are these Kate Spade white studs- with Brynlee’s growing curiosity in ALL things, I really can’t wear any earrings other than studs without risking my earlobe getting ripped through… And I think these would be the perfect summer go-to earrings that would match basically my entire wardrobe.

Next up, the Olivia Mama + Mini set from Willow Crowns- First of all, it is beautiful, second this would make hiding the fact that I haven’t washed my hair in 5 days SO MUCH easier! And lastly, twinning with Brynlee… enough said.

I would gladly take one of each Aidie’s Hideaway’s garlands, but I am especially wanting the wildflower garland (pictured above) and the sunflower garland (Hint, hint… if a certain husband is reading this, and you probably should be, I need the 7 foot garland).

Petite Druzy + Hand Stamped Initial Charm Necklace, Custom Hand Stamped, New Mom, Mom Jewelry, Gift for Mom

I am absolutely loving this necklace from Dolce Ave! She will hand stamp an initial on the gold medallion, I would want a B for Brynlee of course, but I love the fact you can customize it!

I have been seeing Woven Pear socks everywhere the last few months and I just die and the cuteness of these orange socks! And from what I hear, these socks are amazing, definitely a must have!

Pretty PJ Set. Beckoning Creatures

And to go with the socks, some new pajamas would be nice, you know, keeping with the whole comfy cozy theme. And isn’t this set just darling?

Since, we’re asking for socks and pajamas already, we might as well round it out with a lovely new robe. What I really love about this one, besides the fact that it is beautiful, is that it is light weight! It is way too hot in Arizona (even in the winter) to have anything that is too heavy.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my wish list, maybe found a few things to add to yours! And speaking of yours, please share! Let me know if there is anything I need to add to mine!

Life Lately

I decided to change the “Our Weekend” posts to “Life Lately” because, well, some weekends just aren’t that exciting and really don’t warrant a whole post.

One new thing we did was take a trip to our local library.

I can’t believe how much fun we had! We just happened to make it right before they were doing a toddler story time and Brynlee loved it!

We were there for 2 hourse and Brynlee had so much fun looking at books.

Sitting in the rocking chairs.

Playing in the children’s play area.

I know we will be spending a lot of time there this summer!

We also bought a new piece of furniture that finally got delivered. We have been searching for a console table to go behind our couch for years! I’ve even contemplated making over a dresser and have been scouring Craigslist for one that I liked.

A few months ago, we took a trip to American Furniture Warehouse (it is huge!!!) and found this console and I absolutely love it!! It’s a little taller than either of us realized (that is why you should always measure!!! Oops!), but we are fine with it and I’m just so happy to finally have something to fill that empty space.

We had some really amazing weather this weekend so we spent most of our time outside playing with Brynlee in the backyard.

She learned how to blow bubbles, instead of just trying to lick the bubble wand.

She loved drawing on the patio with sidewalk chalk.

PSA- this huge box of sidewalk chalk is only $5 at Target and is a great investment for anyone else who has chalk drawers out there!

Brynlee loves trying to get Lola to play with her.

And she had so much fun pulling her wagon that Grandma got her around the yard.

We did take a trip to Bass Pro Shops, but Brynlee wasn’t a big fan unless we were parked in front of this aquarium the whole time. So here we stayed while Landon got what he needed.

Brynlee’s also become quite the gardener and takes her watering her plants very seriously!

Oh and of course she had to steel Daddy’s flip flops and walk around in those, because her shoes are clearly not as cool! Lol!

It is supposed to warm back up this week, so we will be limited to our outside time, early morning or evening, but we plan to soak up every minute we can until we hit those scorching temps of an AZ summer… At which point you will find us at the library! I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Our Weekend

Whew! What a weekend! It’s been one of those where we’ve gotten a lot done, as in a lot of stuff that we’ve said we’d do since we moved in… 5 years ago!!!

Seriously, what takes us so long to do certain things, because once we do them, I’m certainly happy we did and always wonder why we waited so long! But more on that later.

We had a super fun weekend that started with a shopping trip to the outlets where we found this super cute hat (similar) for Brynlee that she hasn’t taken off since!

On Saturday, my niece had her 4th birthday party, it was a pool party and Brynlee couldn’t have been more excited.

Shoes, bag, hat (similar

It’s still a little too cool here to get in the pool (I was freezing) but Brynlee loved being in the water! She cried when I finally took her out and that was only because her lips were turning blue and she was shivering uncontrollably… Needless to say, I’m, sure we will be spending multiple days over there throughout this summer!

Once we finally got her inside the house, she would not leave their poor cat alone and repeatedly put this roll of masking tape on his head.

On Sunday, Landon spent the day prepping our patio expansion. My dad came down in the afternoon to help and to be here to help with the concrete on Monday. Have I mentioned how grateful I am to have a father that is a General Contractor and has been doing this stuff for over 50 years and always willing to help when we need it? Thank you Dad!!!

Meanwhile, I worked on bloggy things while Brynlee napped (basically the only chance I get to) and Lola supervised… Now that’s the life! #amiright????

Monday we were finally able to pour our patio, we only needed 2 yards of concrete, we found this small batch company and I would highly recommend them to anyone else looking to pour a small amount of concrete and you don’t want to mix it yourself. We priced everything out and mixing it ourselves would have only been about $40 cheaper and definitely not worth the extra time in our books, plus it will match the existing concrete better.

And let’s not forget our special supervisor during the patio expansion process.

After a while, us girls decided to have a paint party, while the boys finished up with the patio.

Apparently it’s really fun to paint your face too!

Honestly though, I can’t tell you how happy I am that we finally expanded our patio. We have amazing weather about 9 months out of the year, but with such a small amount of patio space we definitely have not been utilizing it. Now, expect us to be out there any chance we get!!

Seriously though, what is it that take us so long to do things that we’ve obviously wanted to do for a long time??? Please tell me we aren’t the only procrastinators???? Anyways, aside from the patio, I’ve been working like a maniac on the inside trying to repaint the entire interior, not an easy task! Anyways, I can’t wait to share the finally makeover!

I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Expanding the Patio

When we bought our house 5 years ago (I cannot believe it’s already been that long), it came with a tiny little 10’x10’ patio and we’ve been complaining about it ever since! Well, today we are doing something about it! By mid-morning we are hoping to have this 10’x12’ patch of dirt filled in, more than doubling the size of our patio and I cannot wait!

And here is all the grass Landon had to dig out to make our patio expansion happen!

I can’t wait to show you the finished product! Wish us luck!!!

Can’t Live without It- Fresh Herbs (and a recipe!)

For today’s Can’t Live without It, I’m sharing my love of fresh herbs!

Living in Arizona, I try to keep my herb garden going year round, but sometimes, in the dead heat of summer, it can get really tough! Those suckers tend to shrivel right up if I’m not careful to give them shade and PLENTY of water.

Nonetheless, I press on each year, trying to make the most of the time I do have an herb garden and try to use fresh herbs in nearly all of my recipes. My go –to’s are basil, rosemary, oregano and cilantro (um… hello homemade salsa!), but I also have parsley and mint (ahem… mojitos… ahem) growing right now too.

I’m also all about quick and easy dishes, since spending large quantities of time in the kitchen have basically been extinct from the day Brynlee was born. Today, I wanted to share one of my go-to side dishes that is quick and easy and the best part, it can be prepped ahead of time, say at naptime, then tossed in the oven when you are ready.

Garlic Rosemary Roasted Sweet Potatoes

2-3 Sweet potatoes depending on size (this makes enough to feed my family of 3)

A couple of sprigs of rosemary

2 cloves of garlic (Okay, I used more like 5, but what can I say… we are garlic lovers over here!)

Olive Oil

Kosher salt and pepper to taste

Pre-heat your over to 425*.

Dice your sweet potatoes, chop your rosemary and mince your garlic.

Throw your sweet potatoes onto a baking sheet (I like to cover mine in tin foil for easy cleaning, no time for scrubbing pans in this house), drizzle with olive oil and mix around to evenly coat the potatoes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, add in your rosemary and garlic and give it another good mix around.

Toss them in the oven for 25-30 minutes, I like to check mine every 10 minutes or so and give them another stir. And you are done!

This makes the perfect side for just about any meal, I’ve also brought this along to BBQ’s and this would be a great side for a holiday or family gathering. If you are not a fan of sweet potatoes, this works well using regular ptotatoes too.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does! I usually make this once a week and it is always a hit, even with Brynlee #winning!!!

Once again, I’m linking up with Stephanie, Cait and Laura for Can’t Live Without It!

Summer is Coming!!!

First, I have to tell you that I am so excited for Game of Thrones to be back on! I am dying to know what is going to happen with the Khaleesi storyline, hers has always been my favorite! I mean come on, Mother of Dragons… that’s got to be an interesting one! Anyway, while we were watching the season premiere, it got me thinking about how for the last 4 seasons, all we have heard it “WINTER IS COMING!!!” and it always sounded so perilous. And while I’m sure it will be for the people of Game of Thrones, I’m an Arizonian and I am far more scared of summer and will welcome winter any day of the week.

And so, today I am linking up with Annie and Natalie for Thoughts for Thursday.

Thoughts for Thursday

I LOVE winter!!! I love having my windows open, I love being able to get in and out of my car without breaking into a sweat. I love everything about winter, most of fall and half of this so called spring season, that I’m not even sure we get here…

So you see that while I’ve enjoyed the last 6 months, I am truly dreading the next 6…

When it gets so hot that your car is 130* inside and the seat and steering wheel are 2000*, every time you have to go anywhere you risk 3rd degree burns! And don’t even get me started on those metal seat belt buckles!

It’s when the only way you will tempt me to go outside is if a pool is involved and you are handing me a margarita! YUM!

When our A/C bills skyrocket to astronomical amounts (not fun!), and we basically all become hermits… (Unless as previously stated- pool and margarita).

And you will avoid using your oven at all cost!!! Ummm… hello crockpot!

When even your garden shrivels at the sight of the sun, each year we have a least a couple tomato plant casualties. They just wither away, yellow and brittle and yes, we do water them, A LOT!

Even my succulents have had issues…

If you want to get in a daily run, make sure you get out the door by 4am because even then it is 90*+ outside and you will risk heat stroke.

Oh, how I am not excited to see summer again… At least last year I had a vacation to Montana to look forward to. You know, we have snow birds come here during the winter, I would like to start a sun bird movement, where we can all go live somewhere much more habitable during those few horrific months. To be fair, it’s not awful for the entire next 6 months, really there are only 3 months that are truly unbearable, but you get my point.

So, to all my fellow desert dwellers, let’s break out the sunscreen, get those margaritas flowing and let’s see if we can survive another treacherous summer! CHEERS!!!

And just to really get my point across about Arizona summers, I wanted to share what one of my fellow Arizonians shared on Facebook today- 25 Words That Mean Something Entirely Different in Arizona. I thought it was hilarious!

Also, don’t forget about the giveaway I’m doing over on Instagram, @blissfullymadeblog, I’ll be announcing the winner Friday morning.

Lace Headband DIY

If you have an extra 5 minutes, you have enough time to make this headband. I used my sewing machine, but this could easily be done by hand as well. I originally bought this daisy flower lace at Joann’s for Brynlee’s Easter dress, but decided against using it and thought it would look super cute as a headband for Brynlee.

Then I pulled open my box of elastic… I may have a slight hoarding problem when it comes to anything craft or sewing related, don’t judge! Lol!

I grabbed some ¼” elastic, I wanted something slightly smaller than the flower, but still substantial enough that the thread wouldn’t rip through it when stretched.

If you’re using a sewing machine you are going to want to use a zig zag stitch. Adjust your stitch length shorter than you would normally use and your stitch width to slightly smaller than the size of elastic you are using. The picture shows the setting I used. PS- I have no idea what happened to the plastic on my sewing machine to make it so foggy looking, but I can’t get rid of it.

Taking 14” of your lace and 4” of your elastic, decide what will be the top and bottom of your lace and place your elastic on top of the bottom of the lace. Stitch it into place going over it a few times for added strength.

Do the same thing on the other side, making sure that you are using the same bottom side of your lace that you did previously.

And… you are done!!!

It was so cute that I decided to make one for myself too! For mine I used 17” lace and 4” of elastic.

Then I still had enough lace to make one more child version that I’m giving away on my Instagram page @blissfullymadeblog, so if you don’t want to make one for yourself, head on over and enter to win one for the little lady in your life.
