Our Weekend

Have you ever had one of those weekends that by the time you sit down at the end of the day on Sunday, once the babe’s gone to bed, you realize it was the first time you’ve sat down all weekend? Yeah, we had one of those!

My friend Paula and I woke up early Saturday morning to go to one of those Produce on Wheels events, you pay $10 and walk away with up to 60 lbs in produce. I had gone to one a few years ago, and while I definitely didn’t walk away with 60 lbs worth of produce, I did get a lot and it was well worth the $10, plus it only took about 30 minutes, so I was excited to go to another one. Oh… how naïve I was! I guess in the past few years these things have gained in popularity or something, we waited in line for 3 hours before we were finally walking away with our 4 boxes and 2 bags of veggies each. There were multiple times we questioned our sanity in staying in that line, but we kept figuring that we’ve all ready waited “this long” so we might as well wait a little longer…

*There was one more box full of tomatoes that isn’t pictured here.

Anyway, thanks to my 3 hour visit to the “produce stand”, I was running a little behind on all my other weekend things and now I had probably 40 lbs of produce to wash, chopped, freeze or can to add to it. I got about half way through before Brynlee and I had to leave for a birthday party. And what a fun party it was! Brynlee really enjoyed the bounce house.

And the water guns.

But then she just decided to play in the water.

And the sidewalk chalk.

And she really loved taking this car for a spin.

And how cute is this piñata! I tried to get Brynlee to take a swing at it, but she wanted nothing to do with it!

We didn’t get home until late Saturday evening, basically with just enough time to start Brynlee’s bedtime routine and get her into bed. Landon and I watch an episode of House of Cards (no, we still haven’t finished this season…), then I was exhausted and went to bed early!

We got another early start on Sunday running some errands. We are extending our patio next week and Landon needed a few supplies at Home Depot to cap our sprinklers where the patio will go so I took the opportunity to pick up some flowers. Brynlee even scored a new Mickey puzzle while we were out and has been obsessed with it ever since.

After lunch, Brynlee took a nap and Landon got to work prepping the space where our patio will go.

And I got to work planting all of my beautiful new flowers!

Then I decided to finally put together this cute bench my friend had gotten Brynlee like a year ago, but almost as soon as I got everything set out, Brynlee woke up. Luckily, she is a little DIY-er at heart and had a lot of fun helping me put it together.

I think it’s time to get her her own tool set, she was trying to use the screw driver and was a big help handing me the washers, nuts and bolts.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent reading books, doing puzzles, building with blocks and finishing dealing with all that produce. And then, finally, after Brynlee went to bed it was Game of Thrones! I can’t believe how much I forgot about since last season!

Oh and I made this recipe over the weekend and it was delish!!! A great way to get your kiddos to eat their veggies too!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!
