I just wanted to pop in today to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are all enjoying time with your loved ones and fill up on delicious food!

During this busy time of year, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. But this holiday is always a great time to take a step back to remember all that we have to be thankful for. And during this season of my life I have so, so much to be grateful for.

I’m especially thankful for those of you who continue to come to this little space of mine, even though my posting is scattered and infrequent. Thank you for reading!

Happy Turkey Day and if you are braving Black Friday shopping, have fun and stay safe!

Pumpkin Patch Round 2

Happy Election Day Friends! No matter where you stand on this election, I hope you get out and exercise your right to vote!

Before we got too far away from October, I wanted to pop in and share our 2nd Pumpkin Patch experience of the year at Vertuccio Farms. We visited Vertuccio last year as well and while we had fun, we made a few mistakes, like going too late in the day (it was scorching hot) and we went on a Saturday close to Halloween so it was super busy. Not only did we not stay very long, but we weren’t able to do very much because there were so many people there.

This year we went with Brynlee’s preschool class on a field trip and we had so much fun!

Gill and His Uncle

First off, you must stop at Gill’s Grounds, a little coffee truck/shop just outside of the farm for the best coffee ever! I had a pumpkin spice latte and it was heaven! It’s not super close to us, but I would consider making the drive over there on the weekend just to experience their coffee again! Seriously, if you are every in the area, you must stop! And yes, they have a drive thru, you’re welcome!

Fortunately for us, there was only our school and one other there that day, it almost felt like we had the whole farm to ourselves!

We spent most of the day at this slide…

Or these duck races!

But Brynlee had a lot of fun at the other attractions too! She loved seeing all the farm animals and wore herself out climbing all over these giant tractor tires.

Her day was made when she was able to “zip line like Chase” from Paw Patrol.

And she even got to pick a pumpkin from the patch before we left.

Since we were there on a field trip, Vertuccio Farms provided a shaded pavilion with picnic tables for us to take a break at, as well as a snack and drinks. Thank you Vertuccio Farms! We had a wonderful time this year and will definitely be coming back next year!

Rainbow Dash Halloween Costume

I had so much fun making Brynlee’s costume this year. I procrastinated until the last minute because I was pretty nervous about it turning out right, those wings scared me a little.

For her costume I used sparkly blue satin from Joann’s and for her mane and tail I used a rainbow of colored tulle that I cut into stips with my rotary cutter and mat then sewed them together. It was really easy and made her mane and tail super full. For the mane, I covered a headband in the blue satin, drew out an ear pattern, sewed it together and hot glued them to the headband on either side of her mane, also hot glued on. For the main body of her costume I used Violette Field Threads Haven pattern, then modified and attached this wing pattern to the back straps. And for her cutie mark, I purchased this PES filed and used my Brother embroidery machine to make it in the 3″ size.

Brynlee was so excited to wear her costume and I was glad we had so many events for her to wear it to, considering the amount of work I put into it. She loved the wings and her cutie marks the most, she would stop and show everyone who would pay attention to her her cutie marks. It was really cute!

So, what is your preference? Do you make your own costumes or do you prefer to buy them?

Halloween 2016 Recap

I was going to try to combine our Halloween Recap and Brynlee’s Rainbow Dash costume into one post, but it was getting too long, so check back tomorrow for all the details on how I made her costume.

I love, love, love Halloween! All the costumes, decorations and fun things you can do with food makes it all so much fun, especially now that we have Brynlee. Having kids to celebrate the holidays with truly does bring back all the magic I remember as a kid and this year we really celebrated Halloween! We visited 2 Pumpkin Patches (Mortimer Farms and Vertuccio Farms). Brynlee has a Halloween Party at school where they went trick or treating, decorated cookies and made Halloween crafts. Then she got to dress up dance and pass out her Halloween treats there. We also went the The Phoenix Zoo’s Howl-o-ween, where she got to trick or treat again. We carved and painted pumpkins. And we finished off our celebration on Halloween by making sugar cookies, chili and cornbread muffins before heading out to trick or treat. It was a perfect Halloween and we had so much fun!

The kids all really loved Howl-o-ween, but it was super crowded, took us over an hour to get in (crazy lines not only to get into the zoo, but also just to get into the parking lot). If you go, I would recommend getting there really early!

Much like the Zoo Lights, the whole Zoo was lit up, it was beautiful and Brynlee couldn’t resist getting a picture with these cute bunnies.

More long lines while trick or treating.

But Brynlee loved every minute of it and made out with quite a bit of candy.

They also had a huge tent set up with carnival like games inside that the kids loved playing.

They won prizes for each game they played, candy, bracelets or books about animals.

It was really hard to get Brynlee out of this tent.

They also had characters picture stations set up around the zoo.

Moon the Mermaid was Brynlee’s favorite! As soon as she found out there was a mermaid there that was all she could talk about. Moon even gave her a blue jewel to match her Rainbow Dash costume and she couldn’t have been more excited!

On Sunday, we carved and painted pumpkins. Brynlee made her cat pumpkin from the kit I picked up in the Target dollar bins and loves to “play” with it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found that thing on the ground mixed with her other toys.

And of course she had to paint a cat face on her pumpkin. By the way our fitted tablecloth worked perfectly for carving/painting pumpkins! Clean up was so easy and we were never concerned about it slipping! Get the tutorial here.

Normally I stick to free handing a jack-o-lantern face on my pumpkin, but when we saw these paper patterns we knew Brynlee would love it. She was so excited the first time she saw them lit up and wanted to show all of our trick or treaters our pumpkins.

On Halloween, we decided to make sugar cookies to pass the time until we could go trick or treating.

I love baking with Brynlee and she is getting to be quite the cookie decorator.

Finally it was time to get ready to go, but not before we snapped a few pics of our cute little Rainbow Dash.

I wasn’t planning on dressing up, but Brynlee kept asking me what I was going to be, so earlier in the day while at Target I snagged this witch hat for a couple of dollars, paired it with a black maxi dress, black statement necklace and red lips. It made her so happy when I walked out as a witch, so it was all worth it!

Off to trick or treat!

Brynlee really came out of her shell this Halloween! b26

She loved running up to the door, ringing the doorbell and saying trick or treat!

Since we took Brynlee earlier in the evening, we still made it back in plenty of time to pass out candy to the trick or treaters that came by our house. I got Brynlee with the flash in this picture, but her favorite thing to do is pass out candy and make our Skeleton bowl talk and surprise unsuspecting trick or treaters. She thinks its hilarious!

I hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween too!
