Lincoln’s Three Month Update

I am well aware that this is far past due, I mean Lincoln turned 3 months old way back in February. However, I still want to catch up and post his monthly updates so I can look back on them in the future like I do for Brynlee’s.

Lincoln's-3-Month-Update

Lincoln is still proving to be such a wonderful, happy baby! We just adore him and his little personality and I really can’t wait to see how it develops as he grows. I can already tell that he is going to be happy, kind and fun loving.

B3

Health: We have been so fortunate that Lincoln has been so healthy these last few months. Having a baby during cold and flu season can be a little worrisome, especially when you have an older sibling that is in school, bringing home who knows how many germs and doesn’t necessarily follow the “always wash your hands before you touch the baby” rule. Plus, I think we are still a little scarred from how sick Brynlee always was, so this has been a pleasant surprise for us this go around. We will find out his exact weight at his 4 month check up next month, but right now, if I had to guess, I would say he is probably around 11-12 lbs or so.

B7

Sleep: Oh my sweet baby Lincoln, you are a wonderful sleeper, bless you! I usually put him down around 8:30-9 and he sleeps through most nights, until 5-5:30, when he does wake in the night it is usually only once for a quick feeding, then right back to bed. I am so, so thankful for this! I don’t know how I would manage wrangling a toddler all day on severe lack of sleep. He still isn’t a great napper when not in his car seat or being worn in the baby carrier, but to be honest, I really don’t mind having him sleep on me while carrying him. I am still able to get quite a few things done while keeping my baby close and I just love that!

B5

Social: Lincoln is a very social baby! He loves when anyone will pay him attention and reward them with endless smiles, giggles and coos. I will never tire of hearing his giggles! Big Sis can get the most out of him with Daddy coming in at a close second.

B8

Diet: Lincoln is still exclusively nursing and it has been going really well for us. I still pump here and there for a reserve, but not on any real schedule. I’ve found it hard to find the time in between his nursing sessions and all the running around I have to do for Brynlee. So I just try to squeeze in a quick pumping session whenever I find myself with a spare 10-15 minutes. I do use this hands free pumping bra to make it a little easier on myself. And he still will not take a pacifier. I’m sure I will be grateful for this when he is older and I’m not having to deal with weaning him from it, but there are times when I just really wish he would take one if you know what I mean…

B9

Clothes: I have finally went ahead and switched out all of his newborn clothes for 0-3 months. I always find the switching out of sizes to be bittersweet. I am so, so thankful for a healthy, growing baby, but as I pack away those tiny clothes I can’t help but feel a bit said that my baby will never be that small again. I know all you other moms out there know exactly what I’m talking about.

B2

Crying: Lincoln is such a sweet baby and really doesn’t cry much at all. As long as his needs are met, he is fed, has a clean diaper and is being held (yes, to him that is a need), he is a pretty content baby. When he does cry, it’s more of a whimper and at a far lower volume than we were previously used to (ahem, Brynlee, ahem… we love you, but you were a loud cryer).

B6

Likes: Baby boy loves his mama! Lincoln is such a mama’s boy and I absolutely love it!! He also adores his sister and loves when she pays attention to him. I received this lovey blanket as a baby shower gift and Lincoln has really taken to it. He loves to cuddle it in his car seat. He is very curious and likes to be held up and able to survey his surroundings and he loves our dog Lola!

B4

Milestones: He is becoming more interested in things and really observing what’s going on around him. He is getting better at tummy time, but still doesn’t really enjoy it for more than a few minutes. He tries to grab at toys and things, but still has pretty wonky hand eye coordination, so while it’s sheer luck when he is able to grab an object, it’s still pretty fun to watch him try. I love this stage and all the learning and growing that is happening… I just wouldn’t mind if it happened at a little slower rate #saideverymomever #butitsnolesstrue

Sweet Lincoln, we love you so much. You have been the perfect little addition to our family and watching you grow and your little personality come to life is one of our life’s greatest joys. Love you baby!

xoxo, Mama

Lincoln’s 2 Month Update

b1

Oh how we have loved this little addition to our family. And I can finally say, that rounding out at 2 months I think we’ve finally found our new groove as a family of 4. Brynlee absolutely adores her little brother and he is fascinated by her. Whenever she comes near him he just watches her. She likes telling him about her toys or reading books to him. My favorite is when we all cuddle together on my bed and read books together. It’s a sweet little moment (amidst all the chaos of our busy life) with this family of mine and I couldn’t feel more blessed.

b2

Health- Aside from getting a little congested earlier in the month, he has been pretty healthy. We solved the congestion problem by having him sleep at a slight tilt in the Mamaroo and he hasn’t had any issues since. At his 2 month appointment the Dr. said all looked great! He is growing like a champ, he weighs 10 lbs 5 oz (11%), almost double his birth weight and is 22″ long (10%) and his head is 15.5″ (56%).

b7

Sleep- Lincoln is still proving to be a great sleeper and I really hope that keeps up. We still don’t have much of a nap time routine throughout the day, mostly due to the fact that we are constantly running Brynlee to various activities, so he just has to nap whenever he can. Luckily he seems to really enjoy the baby carrier and riding in the car puts him to sleep every time! Although his favorite place to sleep is on my chest wrapped in our Solly Baby wrap. At night, I do his last feeding around 8pm and put him down between 8:30-9pm. He sleeps until 2:30-3am, wakes up to eat, then goes back down until around 6am. Every once in a while we will still have a rough night and he’ll wake up multiple times, but for the most part that is his schedule and it works for me!

b6

Social: Lincoln is getting a lot more social. He smiles all the time now and even let out a little giggle during one of our late night feedings. He also loves telling stories and will babble while he is on his play mat or whenever big sis comes around. He loves looking in the mirror on his play mat and is getting a lot more aware of his surroundings. Now when we talk to him he will move his head around looking for us. He loves his Daddy who can make him smile all the time, it is the cutest thing!

Diet- Breast feeding is still going really well for us! We hope to be able to continue until he is a year old. He does not like the bottle! I still pump to build up a reserve (just in case) and so Landon can have the opportunity to feed him too, but he is just not a fan. He doesn’t really like pacifiers either and usually just spits them right back out (Brynlee was the same way with pacifiers, though she was bottle fed).

b3

Clothes- Lincoln is still in newborn clothes (they are finally fitting really well), though some 0-3 month clothes do fit now. At the rate that he is growing, I’m sure by the time he is 3 months we will have moved up a size.

Crying- He still doesn’t cry much, so long as his needs are met, being fed, clean diaper, etc. Though he much prefers to be held and will start protesting if he has been put down too long, which is why we love our Solly Baby wrap so much! Overall he is a pretty calm baby that likes to be held to observe his surroundings. His head control is really good for his age, he is constantly picking up and turning his head to look at everything around him.

b4

Likes- he is definitely a mama’s boy and prefers to be in my arms, but loves when his daddy talks to him and will give him more smiles than he ever gives me. He loves his sister and watching whatever she is doing. He likes to be able to see his surroundings and does not like to be covered up in his stoller while he is awake. I can already tell he is going to be very curious, much like his sister is. He also still likes car rides and going for walks in the stroller.

b5

Milestones- smiling and giggling and being more social in general. We can already see his little personality developing and it is so fun to watch.

We love our little boy so much, he truly has completed our family in the best way. We love watching Brynlee becoming such an amazing big sister, she always wants to help with him and is so concerned about where he is or if he cries. It’s so bittersweet, being excited to watch him grow, but also sad to see him leave the newborn stage behind. Happy two months little Lincoln, we all love you more than you can possible imagine!

Lincoln’s One Month Update

b1

Somehow, and I’m still not quite sure how yet, but somehow Lincoln turned one month old! Ever since having Brynlee, time has flown by and I always remember barely being able to believe how quickly time passed between her monthly updates, but having Lincoln right before the holidays really sped things up for me. I’m mean, our holidays were pretty low key in comparison to what we normally do, but they were still busy with things like Brynlee’s winter dance recital, family visiting to meet Lincoln and for Christmas, and just our normal celebrations. Time just flew and now here I am writing his one month update… #timepleaseslowdown

b2

*Our favorite sleepers

Lincoln has been such a sweet baby from the moment he was born. He loves to cuddle and to be held, he has been a great sleeper, which has been wonderful for me, and he’s a great eater. Actually he eats a ton! When he was born he weighed 5 pounds 10 ounces, by the time we left the hospital 3 days later he was down to 5 pounds 3 ounces, it’s perfectly normal for babies to lose weight right after they are born. And he was such a great eater from the very beginning that I wasn’t at all worried by this weight loss. By his doctor appointment 2 weeks after he was born he was up to 6 pounds 4 ounces and I’m confident that he is continuing to steadily increase in weight. He also grew 1.25″ since birth, he was 18.5″ and at his 2 week appointment he was 19.75″. He is currently sitting in the 40th percentile for length and the 5th percentile for weight.

b3

*Stuffed Dog

Health: We are only a month in and keep him pretty secluded, when we do go out I always keep him covered up in his car seat with a car seat canopy cover that I made him. We also make sure that everyone who comes to visit/ meet Lincoln are not sick and washes their hands before they hold him. It’s kind of scary having a baby during cold and flu season with all the germs floating around. I’ve actually had a cold for about a week now, but luckily Lincoln seems to be doing well.

b7

Sleep: Like I said, Lincoln is a great sleeper, he will immediately fall asleep anytime we take a ride in the car, if we vacuum or if my hair dryer is going. In the hospital he would sleep for 4-5 hour stretches, which made the nurses nervous about him going without food for so long. But he is more of a cluster feeder, he eats a ton and then is able to sleep for longer amounts of time. I am eternally grateful for this, I was really nervous how I was going to handle being exhausted all the time and taking care of both Brynlee and Lincoln, it’s not like I can just sleep whenever he does during the day now like I was able to with Brynlee. We have had a few rough nights, but for the most part things have been great! We usually go to bed between 10-11pm, he wakes up to eat around 2am to eat, then sleep until around 6 or 7 which is about the time Brynlee wakes up to, so it’s been working pretty well for us. This isn’t to say that I don’t still get tired throughout the day, sometimes our 2am wake up last a couple of hours and I usually wake myself up a few times to check to make sure he is okay, but he is already a much better sleep than Brynlee ever was so I have hope that this will continue.

Social: While is sister Brynlee was a social butterfly and loved being held by anyone, Lincoln is definitely a mama’s boy. He loves to snuggle, but he wants it to be with me. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it, but I do wish he would like to go to Daddy a bit more.

b4

Diet: I am so happy to report that breastfeeding is going extremely well. After not being able to with Brynlee I was worried I would have the same troubles this time around, but fortunately Lincoln had a great latch from the time he was born and my milk supply has been sufficient to be his sole source of food. I have recently started pumping to build up a reserve to serve as a backup and so Landon can bottle feed him occasionally. I’m hoping that once Landon starts feeding him too he will bond with him as well. The lactation consultant at the hospital suggested we wait a month until we introduced a bottle to make certain he was good and comfortable with breastfeeding and wouldn’t refuse to once he realized how easy it is to feed from a bottle.

b5

*Outfit

Clothes: Lincoln is just now starting to fit into his newborn clothes. He has been swimming in them all month and some are still a little big, but he is definitely starting to fill them out a bit better now.

Crying: Lincoln really doesn’t cry much, only when he is hungry or needs to be changed. Once his need is met he immediately settles. Although recently he has started protesting being put down, the boy loves to cuddle, so I ordered this wrap in hopes of being able to “cuddle” and still have my hands free. As much as I do love to just sit on the couch and cuddle him all day, Brynlee needs my attention too and so does my house… Hopefully this will help bring a little more balance to our situation.

*3 Days Old

b8

*1 Month Old in same outfit

Likes: His mama, cuddling, car and stroller rides, listening to music, being talked to and eskimo kisses. He loves to be swaddled and likes to eat whenever we do. I swear he has a sixth sense of when we sit down for dinner, he immediately wants to eat too, even if I just fed him.

Milestones: Successfully breastfeeding was a huge milestone we passed. I unfortunately wasn’t able to with Brynlee and was really hoping it would work out this time. I am so relieved I’ve been able to provide Lincoln with everything he needs so this is a huge accomplishment for me! I will say, in my experience, bottle feeding is definitely easier and less time consuming.

We are absolutely loving being a family of four! Brynlee is really starting to adjust to her role as big sister, at first things were a little rough, but she’s become very understanding of when Lincoln needs my immediate attention and has really been helpful if I need her to bring me something. She’s very attentive of her baby brother and is always checking on him or running to let us know if he is fussy. She loves telling everyone she see’s about her baby brother and I know things will just continue to get better and better. We love you Lincoln and feel so blessed to have you as part of our family, happy one month baby!
